Our Classes
Our classes are family-centered, loving and nurturing. Class time is educational, fun and purposeful — a rarity in today’s world in which education is often confused with entertainment.
Sensory Science
Each week children learn new science concepts through hands-on sensory learning. Every class has a scientific theme that we explore and includes a science experiment, arts & crafts, and themed sensory bins. This class is for children ages 2-5 and focuses on introducing children to the scientific method through questioning and observation. Past themes included rainbows, dinosaurs, space, Earth Day, the ocean, music & sound, and more!
Cooking Class
This class for children ages 3-8, is a hands on and interactive opportunity for children to learn real life cooking skills and try new foods. Each week we taste, mix, smell, and explore the world of cooking.
Week 1 - Toasted Cheese Sandwiches & Strawberries
In this class we try different types of cheese (soft vs hard, sweet vs salty) and learn beginner knife skills like spreading and slicing.
Week 2 - Sweet & Savory Yogurt Dips
This week we learn about spices and where they come from. We learn about measuring correctly and mixing well. Children also have a chance to practice their cutting and peeling skills by preparing a fruit and vegetable tray to enjoy with their yogurt dips.
Week 3 - Pancakes & Scrambled Eggs
Breakfast is on the menu! Children explore how baking powder and baking soda work, practicing measuring wet and dry ingredients, and mixing a batter. Children also learn to crack eggs and make a fluffy egg dish.
Week 4 - Ice Cream & Chocolate Dipped Strawberries
This week we get to make every child's favorite treat, ice cream! We will try different types of milk vs cream to see how fat helps to make ice cream so yummy. Children work together with a partner to measure and mix wet ingredients then shake! shake! shake! them with ice and salt to make ice cream. We will also prepare toppings for our ice cream and for dipping our strawberries!
Storytime
From a young age, children need to be exposed to books, to hear and learn new words, and to engage with language through play. Story time provides the opportunity for children and caregivers to come together in their community to learn, play, and socialize. Story time focuses on building literacy skills for both children and parents/caregivers to use at home.
Story time is a one-hour class for children 0-5 and their parents. Together parents and children enjoy an interactive class that includes early literacy fun with books, songs, fingerplays and body movement. For the littlest ones we also include lapsit songs, interactive baby rhymes and simple storybooks followed by playtime with toys.
Family Storytime
Young children, with a favorite adult, experience new stories through books, flannelboards, songs, activities, and crafts. Family storytime focuses on building early literacy through songs, rhymes and stories. Early literacy is all the things little ones need to know before they learn to read. We also know younger children learn from older children, and having kids of different ages interact can lead to some beautiful learning moments. For the littlest ones we also include lapsit songs, interactive baby rhymes, and simple storybooks.
